Mr. Nostalgia Presents…Happy Thor’s Day!

Posted on: August 29, 2013

In honor of Thor: The Dark World coming out 11 Thursday’s from it’s Friday premier I present to you each and every Thursday leading to that day to be “Happy Thor’s Day”. Why?

Because Thursday is named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor. In Old English, Thursday means “Thor’s Day” or in Old Norse “thorsdagr”.

Thor, in the Old Norse Legends, is represented as a red-bearded god wielding the hammer Mjolnir, which was used as a weapon against the Jotuns (giants), and heard as the boom of thunder to humans. The Vikings, who worshipped these pagan gods before Christianity spread throughout their land, never feared the sound of thunder, for they knew Thor was out battling Frost Giants.

So, “Happy Thor’s Day” to you!

Mr. Nostalgia Returns from Asgard with new Thor: Dark World posters…

Posted on: August 28, 2013

OK, so I didn’t really go to Asgard, but Marvel has released two new posters for their sequel to Thor, and these posters are just great.  The first is of Thor looking so cool I nearly took out my toy Mjolnir to copy the pose, the second is of Loki, who was so great in Thor and The Avengers that I just can’t wait to see what he does this time around.  Check them out and keep counting down every Thor’s Day with me as we  get ready for the movie to be released!

Be sure to head over to marvel.com for Thor and Marvel related news!

Mcfarlane Toys’ Pirate Hidden Blade from Assassin’s Creed

Posted on: August 26, 2013

From the latest chapter of one of the biggest, most popular video game franchises ever, comes the Pirate Hidden Blade and Gauntlet with bonus Skull Buckle!

This life-size, role-playing accessory lets fans wear the signature weapon of the heroic assassin. McFarlane Toys’ all-new version of the Hidden Blade is based on the one worn by the charismatic hero, Edward Kenway in the upcoming blockbuster video game, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. In combat, the brash and rebellious pirate, Edward, draws from the traditional assassin playbook with dual hidden blades, and now fans of the game can, too.

The Hidden Blade and Gauntlet features a spring-loaded, retractable plastic blade, with a switchblade-style play action, just as seen in the Assassin’s Creed video game series. The intricately sculpted Blade section attaches to the bottom of the forearm with adjustable straps and the highly detailed simulated leather Gauntlet attaches to the top of the forearm with the strap and buckle. The life-size role- playing Blade and Gauntlet is 16.5 inches fully extended. Features include a blade release trigger and a blade safety lock.

The bonus Skull Buckle is an exact replica of the one worn by pirate-turned- assassin Edward Kenway in the game. The Skull Buckle can be worn in a variety of creative ways — on shirts, hats, backpacks, messenger bags, and belts – by clipping it onto an item.

McFarlane Toys’ Pirate Hidden Blade and Gauntlet is available for pre-order now at Gamestop.com and will retail for $39.99 each. The Pirate Hidden Blade and Gauntlet is slated to ship Fall 2013.

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2.  After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.  When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave.  With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.  Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own.  With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets,  the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.  But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Club Eternia has reached 115% while DC Infinite Earths and Ghostbusters futures are unknown

Posted on: August 21, 2013

As of August 20 the 2014 Subscription service for Masters of the Universe’s Club Eternia has succeeded.  Unfortunately DC’s Infinite Earths, based on the Comic characters of the DC Universe and Ghostbuster’s Vehicle Ecto-1 has been canceled.

From Mattel:

Toy Fans,

Who has the power? Masters of the Universe® fans, that’s who! The 2014 Club Eternia® subscription lives, and it’s all thanks to the fans out there who subbed up and blasted the meter past our goal for a truly electrifying finish.

Club Eternia

The fight was hard won, but you guys did it! In fact, since the final tally blew right past our goal we can start to think about adding a few non-sub items as well. But please be patient. Once we know what we’ll be able to offer, the earliest that we’re likely to announce anything will be at next year’s New York Toy Fair in February 2014. For now, the important thing is that the MOTUC subscription will go on, and we’ll have another amazing year packed with figures and accessories that fans have been waiting for!

Club Infinite Earths & Ecto-1 Pre-Order

Every super hero knows you can’t win ‘em all and we’re sorry to say we did not reach our goal for the DCU 2014 Club Infinite Earths subscription. We also did not reach our goal for the Ecto-1 pre-order. We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to all the fans for waging such a good, strong fight. It will take us a while to figure out where we can go from here. It may be possible to release a fewDCU figures quarterly, or to release 12 figures at higher non-subscription prices. Or, we may have to say a final goodbye to this line at the end of this year. Without the sub, we just don’t know what’s possible at this point. Over the next few months we’ll be meeting internally and with all of our partners at Warner Bros., DC Comics, and Sony, and we’ll let you know as soon as we can what our options are.

A special note to all the fans: We know that some of you had to make a difficult choice about which subscription you could sign up for. Since we now know that the 2014 MOTUC sub is moving forward, we plan to reopen the Club Eternia® subscription for a short time soon to give anyone who wants another chance to subscribe.
