Jazwares Adventure time Jake the Dog Figure

Posted on: March 24, 2014

From the Land of Oo comes the Adventure Time Hero Jake the Dog along with his apple pie making friend Tree Trunks by Jazwares.

Jake the Dog is the magical sidekick to Finn the Human in the Adventure Time animated series.  Taking place in a time on Earth where the planet was ravaged by an atomic war.  The series follows a somewhat Medieval adventurer teenager and his magical dog as they go on adventures and help those in need.  Jake the dog has special shape shifting abilities that help Finn on their journeys.

The packaging on this 3″ figure is the basic blister card with bubble packaging.

IMG_1167 IMG_1197

The back of the card show other figures available in this series.

IMG_1202IMG_1206IMG_1209IMG_1211

Now you have to understand that this 3″ figure is made for a child.  The body is one solid piece and twists in the middle.  The arms are a soft rubbery plastic and can only move up and down.  The articulation is only on the legs and is similar to Jazwares’ Sonic the Hedgehog figure, hinged Knees and Legs.  The ankles are also articulated to move the foot around.  The sculpt looks looks exactly like the animated Jake.  No paint or plastic problems.

IMG_1229IMG_1236

Jake has very little articulation and is really just made for play.

IMG_1224

Jake comes with an accessory, the Apple Pie baking Tree Trunks.

IMG_1226IMG_1225

Tree Trunks has no articulation but is a very nice figure in her own way.  The sculpt is accurate and the paint apps are clean and smooth and do not hinder any detail.

THE PLASTIC TRUTH:

Jazwares has done a great job creating an Adventure Time series of toys and this Jake figure does not disappoint.  These are figures created for play, they can take whatever rough and tough adventure your  child’s imagination will feature them in.  As for collectibility, I would proudly display these figures on my shelf but as an “Adult” collector I prefer a more poseable figure for my shelf.  (Jazwares does have a Adventure Time 6″ line that has more articulate figures.)

As far as parents are concerned if their child enjoys Adventure Time, I would recommend purchasing these figures.  They are safe and tough enough to handle child’s play.  Just watch out for the small Tree Trunks.  (They are intended for play by children ages 4 and older).

IMG_1231IMG_1221

The fact that these figures are specifically for children is nice.  Simple enough to get kids interested in action figures and they can use their own imagination when the TV is off.  So parents when you want to take an interest in what your young child is enjoying, sit by them and create your own Adventure Time with their favorite characters.

Special thanks to Kelly Tarver and Jazwares for the samples.

Jazwares’ Sonic the Hedgehog figure review

Posted on: March 24, 2014

The speedster Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sega Genesis has found a renewed popularity including a new cartoon series coming to cartoon network and a new toy line coming soon.

But if you can’t wait and need a Sonic fix then try out Jazwares’ line of Sonic the Hedgehog 3″ figures.

Sonic JazIMG_1248

The package is a basic card and bubble that shows the figure in a normal position.  The back of the package shows the rest of the characters in this series.  A lot of interesting characters from the franchise including some that have never had an action figure before.

IMG_1258IMG_1262IMG_1265IMG_1264

Outside of the packaging, the 3″ figure has a great sculpt and very good paint applications.  Bright colors that do not disrupt the details or poses.  The plastic seems to be somewhat soft which is good to get him in certain poses but the arms and legs are somewhat brittle, so please be careful when playing with these figures.

The articulation is amazing for this 3″ figure which includes Ball Joint Shoulders, Hinged Elbows and Knees, Twisting Hips, Wrists, Ankles and Head.  The Spikes on his head somewhat interfere some of the poses you can put Sonic in but with this much articulation it really doesn’t matter because you have so many other poses to choose from.

IMG_1275IMG_1317

I love the sculpt on this figure, it really captures the look and feel of the video game Sonic himself.  There are also nice details on his face including his signature smirk.

IMG_1304

Sonic comes with a stand to help him pose to any way you like.

IMG_1332IMG_1333IMG_1270

The hole on his foot just sits on top of the beg.

THE PLASTIC TRUTH:

One of the only problems I encountered with this figure is the size and weight of his head.  The arms and legs have to be in just the right balance to pull off some poses.  His head is just too heavy to maintain certain action poses on his body.  If you are purchasing this figure for a child, you should caution them not to play too rough with this figure.  The arms and legs are thin and the joints are just right for posing with little to no resistance.  I like the fact that he includes a stand to help him maintain a stance.

I love this figure it did take me some time to place him in these simple poses but after playing with him, I did have some fun with him and can’t wait to get others in this line.

He’s small enough where he does’t take much space on my shelf and I could never get bored of him because I could just change his stance.  This is a wonderful figure and I would highly recommend him to any Sonic fan.

IMG_1282IMG_1299IMG_1313

Jazwares, take a bow because you have created a great 3″ figure of a fan favorite classic.  If you love Sonic the Hedgehog then go out and get a Jazwares Sonic the Hedgehog 3″figure.

New FireFly statue

Posted on: March 21, 2014
Standing defiant in the face of inevitable defeat, pistol at the ready and gripping the tattered banner of the Independents, this is how we imagine Sergeant Malcolm Reynolds at the height of the Battle of Serenity Valley. It’s a battle that would come to symbolize a great sacrifice for Independent forces and a conflict that Sergeant Reynolds would never fully leave behind.
There’s no greater subject for QMx’s first Master Series 1:6 scale statue than Firefly’s Captain Mal at this seminal moment. Every detail has been reproduced with exacting fidelity, from his trademark Moses Brothers sidearm to the brass buckles on his brown suede duster. Particular attention was paid to Mal’s face to match the structure, skin tone, hair color, and blue eyes of actor Nathan Fillion.
Our Master Series statues combine the precision of digital modeling with old-school hand sculpting. For the Malcolm Reynolds:
  • Artist Alejandro Pereira created the body, costume and props, meticulously re-creating each element in a digital model.
  • Trevor Grove, one of the foremost portrait sculptors in the world today, created Mal’s head in clay, capturing both his look and his personality in that way only hand-sculpting can do.

The result is the best, most-detailed 3-D re-creation of Malcolm Reynolds ever done — a premium-class statue we’re proud to offer.

The Malcolm Reynolds 1:6 Scale Master Series Statue measures 17 inches tall, including the 11.5 inch x 9 inch base diorama, and weighs more than 6 pounds. Cast in solid polystone, each statue is hand painted and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Offered at $249.95 in an edition of only 1,000 pieces, the Malcolm Reynolds 1:6 Scale Master Series Statue is sure to become a treasured showpiece.

San Diego, CA (March 20, 2013) – The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have faced enemies old and new over the years, but this June they will have to battle against time itself to save the day! Another great way to celebrate the Turtles’ 30th Anniversary, Turtles In Time is an all-new, essential mini-series for fans who just can’t get enough of the heroes in a half shell.

Traveling to the farthest reaches of the space-time continuum, the Turtles encounter dinosaurs, pirates, samurai warriors — and a bleak future, should they fail on their quest! Written by TMNTscribes Paul Allor (Utrom Empire) and Erik Burnham (Secret History of the Foot Clan), each issue features a time-travelling cover by superstar artist David Petersen (Mouse Guard) and interiors by a rotating lineup of different top artists! Issue #1 kicks off with artwork by fan-favorite Ross Campbell, who will also provide art for the issue’s SUB variant cover.

“I love time travel stories, and I love seeing the Turtles outside of their comfort zone,” says co-writer Burnham. “So basically, this is the most fun I’ve had in the TMNT sandbox yet!”

“I am so excited for this story!” added co-writer Allor. “I’m blown away by the artists we have lined up, and I truly think readers are going to love this wild, rip-roaring journey through time.”

Like the previous IDW mini-series’ before it, Secret History of the Foot Clan and Utrom Empire,Turtles In Time, will offer a unique story that further enriches the continuity, taking fans deeper into the world of the Turtles in a way only IDW can.

Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, in 1984 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles evolved from a cult-hit to a mega-franchise. Appearing in films, television shows, and video games, the Turtles have become a mainstay of comic book culture. Currently appearing in the hit Nickelodeon animated cartoon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they will also star in the upcoming Paramount feature film TMNT, produced by Michael Bay.
