SUPER 7 Cat’s Lair Review

Super 7 should consider changing their tag line to “Super 7, WE MAKE BIG TOYS!” because Cat’s Lair rivals MOTU Classics’ Snake Mountain and Mattel’s MOTU Classics’ Castle Grayskull in terms of playability.   Saying that this Lair is huge is an understatement, I have had hours of enjoyment playing with this massive structure.

I was fortunate enough to own the original Cat’s Lair from LJN

which was a great playset for its time but now Super 7 has updated and detailed the new Cat’s Lair for the Adult collector.

The new Lair stands at almost 3 feet high once assembled.

The two boxes with new artwork of the Thundercats are also huge with plenty of protection for your new Lair, the first box is the body and accessories while the second box is the light up head and claws (Paws).

My Cat’s Lair did not come with an instruction manual so I hope this review will help you.

Outside of the box you see the body of the lair without the head or claws.

As you can see this is the compartment where you place the (3) AAA batteries that are not included.  You will need a small philips’ screw driver to  open the compartment door.  After you place the batteries inside the lair you will need to connect the head to the body.

Included is the wire to connect the head to body.

The head is massive just by itself.

Plug the wire (included) into the body and head.  Rotate the head and attach it to the body until it locks onto the body.

Next just slide the paws into the openings in the body along with the staircase in the middle.

Now you should test the light up features.  To light the head, there is a button on the back of the head.

The chest emblem also lights up but in order to activate it, you will have to go to the main console located inside the lair.

Once at the main console press the Thundercats symbol to activate the emblem and the console.

I love the fact that this lair is based on the cartoon rather than the toy version.  The shape and the mobility of the head perfectly matches the cartoon.

The outside of the Lair includes some weaponry on the shoulders.  Just lift up the doors and you see the gun turrets.

Both sides of the Lair also include part of the mountain where the Lair is built.

The rocky display also has a shelf where you can place action figures and create some awesome diorama scenes.

Now enough about the great exterior, let’s look at the amazing interior.

Up the staircase you will find a secret door to where the Thundrillium is kept to power the lair.

Keep going up to the main entrance into the lair.

The open doors allows your Thundercats’ figures to fit into the entrance.

Inside the lair you will see the balcony to the second level and the weapon’s chamber.

Included with the lair is the weapon’s shelf where the sword of Omens and the Claw shield are kept.  I do love the felt that lines the bottom of the shelf for the claw shield.

Included with the shelf are the Sword of Omens and a Claw shield.

Once placed inside the chamber, you can move the chamber to open another room.

Just as a side note, I’d like to add a blue light to the chamber just to give that cartoon effect.

There is a dial above the chamber that you can use to spin the chamber into another room.

The right side of the lair is the meeting room where there are giant sized “windows” where you can place the main table and seven chairs.  (Included with the set).

The left side of the first level is a unlocked stretch goal, Panthro’s Work shop which includes tools.

Finishing our tour of the first level are the lair’s claws which holds a secret, once open they feature laser guns for defense.

CAUTION: Move the gun using the red part of the gun, we tried moving the gun a different way and the “Barrel” fell off.

You do not need to keep them there as the Lair is fully customizable with the accessories.

On the top third level is the control room where all the monitor consoles are located.

The main monitor comes with a variety of different screens including:

All you have to do is bring down the screen gently down and place the screen inside.  Once you close the frame make sure the tabs are properly secured.

The consoles that go onto the opposite sides of the main console are also interchangeable with their screens.

Simply pick the display and place it inside the console itself.

I cannot recommend this playset highly enough!!!  The light up features, the cool interior design and the playability.

If you thought Super 7 getting the MOTU Classics’ license was a blessing, then you will be amazed at the heights they are taking the Thundercats to.

Everyone involved with this Cat’s Lair should take a bow and hold their heads’ up high for this accomplishment in toys will delight any collector young or Adult.

Thundercats HOOOOOO!!!!
